Sherry Alvis

Sherry Alvis is a local artist who for many years painted for her own enjoyment but recently decided to take her God given talent more seriously.  To get involved in the art world she joined the Birmingham Art Association last year and was recently asked to serve on their board.  She has participated in several local exhibits including Art Walk,  BAA exhibit at Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, BAA exhibit at Down Town Birmingham Library, Deerwood Art show on Deerwwod Lake, and the Lil' Calypso Art Fest, Dadeville, AL. She has been invited to place an exhibit at Children's Hospital for the month of April. One of her favorite paintings called, "A Morning Stroll" was featured on the cover of the fall edition of the Birmingham Art Journal.

Now being a part of the art world, Sherry states that the members of the BAA have inspired and encouraged her greatly. "My life will never lack luster again, I have met so many amazingly nice and inspiring people," she says with a smile.

Sherry states that painting is a sheer joy and to capture on canvas God's creation whether it be a child and his pet, a still life, or a landscape is so exciting. Her favorite mediums are watercolor and oil. Using watercolor she has designed and created a line of Christian Greeting cards called, "Word-Alive Creations".  She is a member artist of Jennifer Harwell Art Gallery. You may view more of her "expressions of joy" by going to Jennifer Harwell's website at jenniferharwell.com.

Sherry is happy to do paintings by commission.
